Doing It For The Shortees

Got a lot of little things I wanted to post about, but I figured it’d be easier to glom them all into one gigantic post instead:

– Our vacation to Ithaca went well; [photos are up](http://www.flickr.com/photos/remydwd/archives/date-posted/2005/09/11/).
– As a sort of tangential thing, it’s worth noting that we flew back, into JFK, on September 11th. It definitely does seem to be a light travel day, as JFK was largely empty. Understandable, I guess.
– Big congrats to my very good friend Gillian Daniel and her no-longer fiancee Josh Sarmir, who were married yesterday in a small ceremony. Best wishes to the two of you, and I hope you have many happy years together ahead of you.
– Ted Leo was on KEXP last week and did a bunch of songs, including Sons Of Cain (formerly known as “New Untitled Song”); you can get a much better MP3 of it as a result.
– Another friend of mine, Susan Michael, is organizing a national day of garage sales for donating to victims of Hurricane Katrina. If you’re interested – Susan could definitely use the help in spreading the word beyond my tiny blog – please check out [katrinagaragesale.com](http://katrinagaragesale.com/).

More later if it comes to me.

Rerouted

By now, it’s obvious that my fears about the fate of New Orleans were justified, that government on all levels have failed the people trapped there, and that the city will never be the same. But we must carry on; alternate plans must be made while the city rebuilds, repairs, regrows.

We will instead be taking our very short vacation in Ithaca, at my parents’ house. While Ithaca is not a tourist destination in nearly every sense, it will provide familiarity and a chance to get out of the city. We depart tomorrow evening, and return Sunday afternoon. I will be delayed in response to most forms of interaction.

I hope and pray, though, that New Orleans will eventually return to the state it once was, so I can return and do the things I intended to do.

Benefit Comedy Shows At UCB

Just wanted to give people a heads-up:

On the 12th, Aziz Ansari is hosting a benefit edition of Crash Test. Check out Aziz’s post about it and the UCB press release. Tickets are $10, and we will be there.

On the 18th, there will be a very special ASSSSCAT MercyCAT. At the very least Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz, and Paul Scheer will be performing, and probably many more. Tickets range from $20 to $50. Check out the PR, or just buy tickets.

Come out, folks – it’s great comedy and a great cause. Anyone who wants to team up for either show, please drop me a line or a comment.
