I’m unsure if the joke is going to make much sense to people outside the NYC metro area, but here’s an attempt at background: the NY Times runs TV ads advertising “the Weekender“. The ad feels like a distant cousin of the old Apple “Switch” commercials, in that you have “regular” people talking about how many great things they can do by subscribing to a Friday/Saturday/Sunday edition of the Times.
I would embed a clip of it, but it is apparently too worthless an ad for anyone to even have put it onto YouTube.
So with that in mind, this ad from the newly opened 92Y Tribeca may fall flat if you haven’t seen the original:

The First Digital Presidential Portrait
From change.gov today:
Today we are releasing the new official portrait for President Barack Obama.
It was taken by Pete Souza, the newly-announced official White House photographer.
It is the first time that an official presidential portrait was taken with a digital camera.

The first ever official digital presidential portrait was taken by a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Surely this will settle the Canon/Nikon conflict.
Addendum: Jason Specland notes that the copyright date is set to 2008, which means Pete Souza probably needs to re-work his processing workflow.
Buttons is a modern, technologically savvy cat. He often uses Katie’s laptop, and not just because it’s a source of heat.
He also enjoys it because it allows him to send files to his friends on the internet. Here you can see that – with no intervention or assistance from us – he is attempting to create a folder named “mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm” and send it to one of the people on Katie’s IM list.
I suppose after becoming a minor Bemani icon, a CIA agent, and a doctor, nothing should surprise me about this cat. But he’s like the gift that keeps on giving.
