2006 International Parade

Dancing

Thinking

Policing

Holding

Every year, we seem to inadvertently wander into town the day of the International (or Immigrants) Parade. While there are a number of countries that get their own unique parade — most notably the Greeks and the Puerto Ricans — this parade offers an opportunity for all the remaining countries to get their parade on. So whether you have as much of a showing as China (several blocks of paraders) or as little as Haiti (one sedan), you get to march up 6th Avenue in alphabetical order.

It has become very apparent to me that a telephoto lens is a fantastic boon when shooting parades. I wish I had picked one up sooner.

The Auditor

Dad

About four years into my web presence, I was putting up pictures of my high school graduation. One of them was of my family gathered around me.

About a week after I put the photo up, I received a joking email from my dad, informing me that I had used his likeness without his permission and that I should remove it immediately. (I’m sure this was one of those life lessons that he always attempts to instill.)

In retaliation, I gave him a witness-protection style blue dot over his head.

In light of Father’s Day, here is a very recent photo of my Dad. I am already looking forward to the cease and desist letter.

Work Anecdote 2: Flood!

The Flood

Looking Into Our Space

Break Out The Devil Duck

Shopvac Service With A Smile

As I was trying to track down a few people today, I noticed a large pool of water creeping into our new office space. In a low key manner I’ve come to understand is typical of me, I knocked on someone’s door and beckoned them towards it, quietly mentioning this large mass of water that had already infiltrated two offices.

Panic ensued. Panic with, thankfully, a lot of laughter. It wasn’t just our space that had the water running through it, the lowest floor of the library was also soaked – undoubtedly caused by the massive rainstorm. We kept our spirits high. Rubber duckies were dunked, cameras were deployed, and when facilities arrived with an armada of shopvacs, they were more than willing to pose for a photo or two.
It was the nice sort of ridiculous situation to end a week with.

(I have a few more pictures up under the tag workflood, if you’re bored.)
