Once in a great while, a class gives an assignment involving making a 3D
animation. CS 418 is one such class, and Holy Wars is one such
animation.
It clocks in at ~11 MB, and is encoded in such a way that it doesn’t
play on my Mac. But it’s a fun 34 seconds or so of fun.
Push Downstairs
First and foremost, I’m rather annoyed right now that AppliedTheory
continues to blow, thus cutting me from the sweet sweet AOLIM. So if you
need me, and I’m not on IM, email will have to be your primary method of
getting ahold of me.
Yesterday was a terribly exciting day, what with getting my Underworld
DVD at last, and the XFL game, and the Maxie’s run…let me break it
down in the UNKLE style.
The Underworld DVD is godlike. 90 minutes of concert footage, 90 minutes
of concept art, program your own concert, and more DVD-ROM content than
you can shake a stick at. Highly recommended.
The XFL game was interesting. While it wasn’t a terribly good game of
football, it was entertaining. It was to the point of being just
ridiculously zany. While we didn’t watch all of the game, I think the
defining moment I saw was when someone on the defensive line jumped the
line of scrimmage and just clotheslined the hell out of the Quarterback.
I couldn’t stop laughing. In any case, while the press is poo-pooing it,
the majority of the fan opinion I read said they enjoyed it, so I’ll
wager that it’ll be around for a while.
Maxie’s was good as always. Wish their food was a little cheaper, but
hey, good food isn’t cheap, and cheap food isn’t good. Well, most of the
time.
Today, I will probably get stuck in the graphics lab some more, and
hopefully my IM connection will come back up. Next weekend, I’m driving
down to Katie’s house for a little visit. Other than that, it’ll be a
hectic work week. Watch me stress out live via my webcam!
Till whenever.
And Now, The News
It’s Thursday, and quite honestly, not a whole hell of a lot is going
on. Which makes it a perfect time to update. Rah rah rah.
First off, as was to be expected, the 2 weeks with Kate were wonderful.
We did indeed have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Among all the
other stuff I got, I also did pick up the fated Gameboy Color and two Pokemon games (Gold, and Puzzle Challenge). Capsule reviews: Gold is an enjoyable traditional-type RPG. I’m very into how the time of day and the day of the week actually do affect the game – certain actions can only be done on Fridays, various Pokemon are only seen at night or in the morning. It’s very involving. Puzzle Challenge is a great, great
puzzle game, which is the first puzzle game to have enough depth that I haven’t mastered it in the first 3 days. I’m decent, but nowhere near great.
Speaking of reviews – I’ve decided that I failed miserably at doing product reviews. Most of my rambling just ends up in the news anyhow. But, people like my concert recaps, and various special things like that. So – the reviews section is going, but something remotely similar will be in its place. Watch for that soon.
MacWorld San Francisco is this week, and unfortunately, I am not there. Apple rolled out some great new hardware, and thank GOD NVIDIA is now providing graphics cards. I was getting worried. Also, the new laptops are swank as all hell.
As to be expected, we Bad Boys of Mac Gaming over at Utterercom
Media are covering the show like nobody’s business. I’ve posted a full Keynote recap over there, plus we’ve got all sorts of keen PR. We’ve been getting a lot of praise, to the point where Brian Burke, Senior PR Manager for NVIDIA, emailed me offering to do an interview for the site (I accepted, should be published in the next few days). So today, I can finally call myself a journalist and not snicker about it.
Life is fairly dull here in Ithaca, but school resumes on the 22nd, so the party will be on soon enough. Till then.
