Genesis revisisted

On the first day, God created ftp. And it was good, although rather cryptic and hard to use for many years.

On the second day, God created IRC. And it was good, despite starting the whole l33t speak thing.

On the third day, God created Hotline. And it was good, although banner servers and message bots quickly made it a pain in the ass.

On the fourth day, God created Napster. And it was good, until the RIAA got involved.

On the fifth day, God created Gnutella. And…it wasn’t very good, but people seemed to like it.

On the sixth day, God created BitTorrent.

And it was so damn good, he took the seventh day off.

Only in Ithaca, Pt. 2

So I’m at the arcade, playing Pump It Up Extra. Playing doubles, doing decently, trying to add some flair to my rather un-fluid play.

Some guy comes up to me after one game…

Guy: Wow, you’re pretty good!
Me: Thanks.
Guy: *pause* So, have you played Hydro Thunder yet?
Me: …

I have no idea where he thought Andamiro dancing games were connected to Midway racing games.

Only in Ithaca…

So today, I pick up Katie from work at 3:30 (she went in at 7, which was real fun to drive). Neither of us had eaten lunch. We decide to go to Taco Bell.

When we get up to the counter, there’s some old woman there trying to figure out the concept of “14 cents changes back”. It takes her a while to grasp this.

I sneeze.

Katie says “Bless you.”

Then the old woman turns and STARES at Katie – like she was responsible for every problem in the history of the universe; the coldest stare you’ve ever seen – causing total silence, for about 10 seconds…and then she just walks away.

Katie has her lip bit trying to keep from laughing.

The cashier is shrugging helplessly and trying to keep from laughing.
I’m nearly horizontal laughing.

Then we can’t even get the order our because we’re all laughing too hard. The cashier even gave Katie a free drink because he was laughing too much and didn’t want to ring it up.

I swear, this town is so weird sometimes.
