Friday Five

1. What time do you wake up on weekday mornings?
It’s completely variable. One of the nice things about my job is that the morning start time is really up in the air, so I don’t have to set an alarm for myself. This means that without any extenuating circumstances, I will generally wake up sometime between 8 and 11.
There are three circumstances outside of my control that dictate the time I wake up:
1) Katie. Katie sometimes will have to be in to work at 8. This means I will be woken up by the alarm for her. Sometimes I will have to drive her in, and this will force me to be awake.
2) Buttons. Buttons is currently going through his teenage phase, which means he will randomly turn into Hell Cat and decide, for instance, to attack my hand, or pounce on my foot because he sees it move under the sheets. The pouncing is cute, the trying to kill my hand is not. Buttons has been known to do this at all hours of the night and early morning, so I’ve been woken at 6 by the cat that some people have taken to calling Brickhouse.
3) Work. Why work? Because I’ve been known to have to fix things at 2 AM. If you’re up at 2 AM working, are you going to be jumping out of bed first thing in the morning? Probably not.
2. Do you sleep in on the weekends? How late?
No more than I do during the week.
3. Aside from waking up, what is the first thing you do in the morning?
I “go to work”. This is an elaborate process involving walking from the bed to my computer. Sometimes, it will be necessary to put on additional clothing so the cat, who inevitably will jump in my lap and bite me in an attempt to get food, will not kill my legs.
4. How long does it take to get ready for your day?
24 hours. *rimshot*
5. When possible, what is your favorite place to go for breakfast?
With a large established sense of irony, I’m going to say McDonald’s. I hate McDonald’s for lunch/dinner, since there’s exactly one thing on the menu (Chicken McNuggets) I can eat and not hate myself for immediately afterwards. But when it comes to breakfast…oh christ. Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Biscuit with a hash brown or two? Grease me up gooood.
My parents are actually a close second. As I mentioned on Peter’s FF entry, I used to eat 10-15 pieces of bacon every Sunday while home. My parents just go nuts when it comes to cooking breakfast – and that’s good nuts, not bad nuts.
