[edit] What is Pop'n Navy?
Pop'n Navy is a score keeping database, score ranking competition, and community hub all in one for the home versions of Konami's Pop'n Music. It is largely populated by English speaking players in the United States.
[edit] Score Keeping
At its base, Pop'n Navy is an analytical engine to help you find which songs and scores you excel/do poorly at. Most players follow a general progression as follows:
- User plays a song on Pop'n Music.
- At the status screen shown after the song ends, the user enters the score into the database using the song session page. The data entered always includes basic score and combo information as well as clear status (pass or fail), and can include note counts, information about the modifiers used while playing the song, a comment about the song, and a picture of the accomplishment.
- The database immediately updates the display for the particular home version being played in the song session interface. This interface can be sorted by in-game metrics (difficulty, genre) or by user-specific metrics (score, date last played,).
- Users continue to switch between playing and entering data, using Pop'n Navy as a reference point to see what they should play next.
Please note that for using this functionality alone, there is no requirement that you interact at all with the rest of the community. The experience can be entirely solitary if so desired.
[edit] Score Ranking
Because there are a large number of players using Pop'n Navy at once, various rankings can be calculated. As Pop'n is very cut and dry in terms of scoring, comparisons are easy to make and largely not up to debate. Basic comparisons can be made on the basis of song scores and scores across an entire individual game. A direct user-to-user comparison can also be made, using functionality called Pop'n Battle.
[edit] Community Hub
While we make no claim to being a particularly large Bemani site, we are one of the few sites with a strong focus on Pop'n Music. We have a strong forum community as well as a vibrant IRC channel. We try to pride ourselves on being helpful to newcomers, while still having the sort of fun that these games demand.
