Who the Hell Leaves All These Glasses Around?
I've spent some time in my life debating whether I'm a pessimist or an
optimist, only to realize that I'm neither. I'm too scientific in a
way. To me I can't say whether the glass is half empty or half full
until I know more about the glass. If someone just drank out of the
glass, it's half empty. If someone just poured liquid into the glass,
it's half full. But show me just the glass without any other
information and I'm stumped. And why does the glass being half empty
have to be a pessimistic view point? Maybe the drink is really shitty
and the person is looking forward to finishing it off. In that case I'd
think they'd be happy that they were half done (glass half empty) while
they'd be upset that they still had another half to go (glass half
full). So what this all means is that I completly over analyze the
glass analogy to the point that it no longer works as an indicator for
me. But that still leaves me with no hint as to which way I lean. I do
look on the bright side and realize that things always tend to work out
in the end, so you shouldn't worry too much cause it'll be good after
all is said and done, so in that respect I'm positive. But does that
make me an optimist? At the same time I'm always there to point out the
implausibilities of schemes and plans, so I'm negative. But I see that
as being grounded and a realist, not necessarily a pessimist. So I'm
thinking that I'm either a pessimistic optimist or an optimistic
pessimist, but I'm not sure which. And yes, there is a difference in
the two. A pessimistic optimist is an optimist with pessimistic
tendencies, while an optimistic pessimist is a pessimist at heart, but
has optimistic tendencies as well.
Of course I can never really see the true me. Hell when I was younger
I'd sometimes draw myself with blonde hair (I don't think I was ever
blonde in my life) just cause I thought, "maybe I do have blonde hair."
I guess that also shows how little I looked in the mirror (or how little
I paid attention to details) or how little I cared about my appearance
(which many of you can attest to by my choice of Goodwill Fashions
clothing). So this leaves me with but one option on solving this
pessimist/optimist question: a general survey of readers. So I'm
asking anyone who does actually read this (for some odd reason) to let
me know (by comment) whether you think I'm an optimistic pessimist or a
pessimistic optimist (you can also vote for pure optimist or pessimist
if you feel that better fits, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't). So I
await you're responses so I can finally realize who I truly am.

You're the same thing I am: a realist.
And there isn't anything good or bad about that.
Now, to go pour myself half a glass of orange juice...

I'm sorry Thom, I only distinguish people into two categories - eaters,
and noneaters.
So far you haven't proved to me that you're an eater, so to me you are a
noneater.
Don't feel bad though, not many, if any, have proved to me that they are
eaters.
